Blog Azeroth Shared Topic: Always Want What You Can’t Have

This week’s Blog Azeroth Shared Topic was suggested by Dragonray of Azerothian Life:

What is in game that you want, but you can’t have? Is there an animal you want to tame, a critter you want to collect, a tabard that has the perfect design for a transmog set etc etc.

What is it you want, but know you can’t get your hands on and have to stare at longingly whenever you log in?

I have read many of the responses to this Shared Topic so far this week, and I kept thinking on what WoW items I wish I could get that I really have no chance at.  Then, I realized, what I really want from WoW has nothing to do with items.  What I really want that I cannot have is WORLD EVENTS.

I started playing WoW about two-thirds through Wrath of the Lich King.  So I missed:

The opening of the gates of Ahn’Qiraj

The opening of the Dark Portal

The Scourge Invasion

The only one I have been present for was the most recent:

(Video from the Restoration Druid Blog.  Great song and song choice, since it is from The Fifth Element.  Love that movie!)

The Elemental Unrest

Believe me, I dragged Laz all over everywhere seeing everything I could possibly see!  We took part in everything!  We did all the quests.  We did all the bosses – a lot.  We tripped all the rifts.  We did the Stormwind invasion every time we were on and it was going.

Yet, during all that, I hardly took any screenshots, somehow.  😦  It was all before my blog, and I was just too “Oooh shiny!” to have enough foresight to capture much.  All  I took pictures of was Laz and I in Twilight’s Hammer disguises.

Of everything.  Really?

I am very excited about the upcoming pre-Mists World Events.  I am not sure of all that it will include, but I hope there is a lot for players to participate in and do!  Epic stuff!  And this time, I will remember to take more pictures!

Speaking on the topic of World Events…  I really hope Blizzard takes the chance with Mists and their goal of expanding open-world PvP and makes WoW more dynamic.  By that I mean, more World Events!  More patches that change the storyline in multiple places.  More things that happen for a few weeks, and then get replaced by something else.  More frequent content.  Bite-sized content, but a near-constant trickle of new stuff.

That seems what an MMO should be all about – something new all the time.

Memories like all the previous World Events, but more often!

P.S. – Oooh, it will be so funny when Laz figures out I found and posted a picture of him in a dress.  🙂

  1. LOL, love the pic of Laz. You’re right though, there’s nothing like the world events, they were all so unique and bring back such great and vivid memories 🙂

I’m also wondering what they will do for Mists.. it was all before my blog as well so I’m sure we’ll all have some interesting posts to contribute. Look forward to seeing the pics in particular 😛

    • Lots and lots and lots of pictures. 🙂

West Side Story moment over…Effy loves to torture me…

    • Awww… *hugs*

It was not meant as torture! I HAD to post the only pre-Cata pics I took. 😛

Maybe I can fuzzy out your face, no one will ever know. 😉

  3. Ooh, I would love more short-term events, like the pre-launch stuff or the Fall of Zalazane/Operation:Gnomeregan, that actually result in changes/phasing of the world (if only relatively small ones, to keep new players from falling too far behind or getting lost & confused).

    • You know, I totally forgot about Gnomeregan! I did that event! I risked life and limb and almost ended up a toxic blob, and all I got was a silly (awesome) vanity item.

I use my Gnomeregan Pride just about every raid, so I can /giggle and /cheer cuz it is just the cutest thing ever.

But I agree, small events that are more frequent. Maybe making them unrelated and scattered throughout Azeroth. Like an event in Southshore or Arathi Highlands or Plaguelands…

In fact, how cool would that be if there was a World Event for the Worgen to take back Gilneas!!?? 😀

  4. I love world events, I loved the zombie invasion that annoyed so many but what was I thinking! I never took one screen shot! Where was my head! I’m not making that mistake again. At least I saved my haunted memento. I can’t wait for the next world event!

    • Definitely! It will be all like that “Tourist in your own town” thing! *gets a fanny pack and her digital camera* lol

Oh man, The Scourge Invasion was such a blast. My only beef to this day was the people who complained about the undead plague that would literally shut down cities because even the NPC’s got zombified for a little while.

It goes back to the post Ysera’s Daughter made last week about entitlement. Stupid player base crying about something being difficult for a week (can’t even remember if the plague lasted that long any more).

Good times. I miss `em too.

    • I would take a lil bit of inconvenience for an event that breaks up the normal hum-drum.

Holiday World Events do not count. :/ They can add all the new shiny prizes they want, but the darn events have been exactly the same the whole time I have been playing.

No purple proto for me. I just cannot suffer through those things.

Yeah, haven’t even tried for Purple puss. Just not my thing, to be honest.

But, yeah, you should have heard the ridiculous complaining. Conveniently the next phase of the invasion seemed to come pretty quick, which was disappointing. I remember sitting in Stormwind with Tum, curing anyone and everyone that I could before the city succumbed to becoming zombies. Good times, I tell ya.
